Today was the first day at home that I decided to do a bit of schooling on the girls. I decided today would be the day for lessons in standing tied, picking up feet, grooming, and being fly sprayed. Buddy, of course, is a champ. Sienna stood still and let me pick up all her feet, Gladys is always good with picking up her front feet, but it is always questionable about her hind feet. She did great on her left hind, letting me pick her foot up and clean it out, her right hind, is always more of a struggle. She is on her way.

The girls and Buddy were off loaded from the trailer about 1:30am Thursday morning. They rode well, ate good and had plenty of water during the trip. Thank you Shane and Pure Hore Transport out of St. Louis, MO.  They were shown hay and water. Fed them all a bucket of grain and left them to settle in for the night.

The three of them settled in as if they had been here their entire lives. They need  a bit of weight put back on them. Will start introducing them to a lounge line lesson soon.

Latest update.  Gladys, Sienna and Buddy have been loaded onto a trailer and are now on the trip of their lifetime.  They are on the road to their new home in Florida.  I have the transporter on speed dial and will be calling him a few times this evening.  They will be in Florida later on Wednesday afternoon.  I am beside myself with excitement.  Can't wait to get them here with me.

New blog....  We have moved to Florida.  On the Atlantic coast.  Sold the farm and bought a "horse farm" here in Florida.  Big joke is that at home, we had 80 acres, here we just have five.  Sienna, Gladys and Buddy are still in Kansas at Rich's place.  Rich is a natural horsemanship trainer and he has taken Gladys and Sienna on for training.  He is also boarding Buddy.  The weather in Kansas has been beyond unbelievable for this past winter, so the mares are still getting tons of ground work, but not a lot of saddle time.  And again tonight that area is supposed to be getting up to 18 inches of snow.  So, not sure when I will be seeing my horses again.  I have total faith in Rich.  He will be hauling the three of them to me when they are finished out.  Meanwhile, I have made connections here in Florida with a trainer an some trailriding friends.  Life is positive.  Will post photos when I have them!

Overdue update

I apologize for being so remiss in updating this blog.  Gladys and Sienna are doing well.  Gladys has gone out for training with a wonderful person and has done well.  However, due to a sarcoma on her side right at the girth area she is coming home early and has not been ridden as yet.  Sienna is going to start more of her education now as well.  She has grown into a lovely young lady, not sure she'll have the height that I originally thought, but we will see.

The girls are very much a part of the family now.  We hope that they will continue to mature and learn to trust.

Beginning to be a Horse

Today marked the beginning of what will be the daily education of Gladys and Sienna. Basically worked on tying and standing being tied. Managed. To pick up all four feet with no difficulty. They enjoyed being brushed and fussed over. Led them down the drive to get them to pay attention just to mend to trust me. It was a good day.

Gladys with her morning feed.  She's really filled out now and looking great.  We are getting ready to do a bit more groundwork with her and then I hope to get her backed so I can start riding her.  :-)
